“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free”
~John 8:32

At the January 6, 2014 meeting of the Water Policy Interim Committee (WPIC), dozens of citizens testified against the proposed CSKT Compact.  While the compact proponents presented their fears of litigation as the major reason for supporting the Compact, the opponents provided factual, documented reasons why the Compact should not be passed in its current form.

The most eloquent speech came from tribal member Tim Orr, a well respected and loved member also of the irrigation community.  Tim spoke the truth and with that, perhaps that truth will “free” legislators to make the right decision by stopping this compact in the current form, not wasting Montana taxpayer funds, and creating a real legally-based Compact that provides the Tribes their federal reserved water rights for present and future uses while respecting the rights of Montana citizens.  There is enough water in the Flathead basin to meet all the water needs without taking water away from anyone, and without the need for total control.
