Here are the official results of the Irrigation Commissioner Elections that took place yesterday.
This is very good news because all three irrigation districts are now controlled by representatives who oppose the water use agreement and the compact as they are currently written. Additionally, the three districts can now take steps to reinstitute a new operations / management board to replace the collapsed Flathead Joint Board of Control.
On the other side of the coin, the Flathead district picked up one compact proponent, Paul Guenzler. The vote was fairly close and going into the election we knew this district was of great concern because of the large number of tribal leases in that area.
It will take some time to unravel the financial mess that the Jocko and Mission districts created when they hired attorneys and began incurring significant legal bills in an effort to gain momentum for the compact and water use agreement.
Note: The numbers reflect ACRES voted, not number of irrigators.
