Here is part 4 of a series of video testimony excerpts from the water compact hearing that put important information on the record.
This video is the testimony of the chairman of the Flathead Joint Board of Control Jerry Laskody discussing the nuts and bolts of the unconstitutional taking of irrigator’s historical water in the CSKT water compact.
The state took great pains to “protect” everyone’s existing uses of water except for the irrigators. It was the state’s idea to transfer legal title for all project water to the CSKT although they only own 10% of the lands served by it. This was done to “protect” irrigators. Say what? Fact is the state willingly gave all of the water to the tribe in the compact and under the guise of improving project efficiency, allowed for the taking of 50-70% of the volume of water historically used.
