Our sincerest thanks to everyone who has already filed an objection to the Flathead Compact Decree with the Montana Water Court. Your efforts will be helpful in providing others who have not yet filed an objection, food for thought as they prepare theirs.
Yesterday, the Montana Water Court posted all of the objections to the Flathead Compact Decree that they’ve received thus far.
The Court’s public notifications page currently has links to three very large documents that we have downloaded and reduced the file size on to make them more manageable for folks that are interested in reviewing these files.
Be forewarned, they might take a little time to load up on your computer.
To those of you who haven’t yet filed an objection, we urge you to not lose sight of the February 9, 2023 deadline for objections. Sixty days will go by in the blink of an eye.
As another informational reference point, we want to make you aware that in addition to the Water Court public notices page, the Montana DNRC also has a website with updates on the adjudications in all of the water basins in Montana. While the page for the Flathead Compact Decree has not yet been updated with the objections, it likely will be soon.

We inadvertently used the wrong objection extension date in the original post of this article. It has now been corrected above to reflect the correct date of February 9, 2023. Apologies.
As I can’t find my paperwork or name listed, would this mean I filled out my paperwork incorrectly?!
The objections in the three files linked on this post were those that were received by the water court before the original December 6, 2022 deadline. If you filed close to that date, or after it, your objection won’t be in these files. Unfortunately we do not have copies of any objections received by the water court after December 6th. I just looked on the water court site and don’t see your name out there, so it is likely something is wrong. You should contact the water court in Bozeman to find out what happened. Perhaps you didn’t send your objection to the three parties in addition to the water court as per the instructions?
Whew! I was able to get someone at the Water Court, and they were able to tell me they received my paperwork sent December 2nd.

Thanks for asking Lisa. There are no updates that we are aware of. One thing you can do is to continue to check the water court’s Public Notices and Information page at this link: https://courts.mt.gov/courts/water/Notices-Info/PublicNotices.
